Avtovaz summed up the results of 2021, and also spoke about plans for 2022. Despite the microchip crisis, the company managed to increase sales in Russia. Two models of the brand – Lada Vesta and Lada Granta – have become the most popular in the domestic market. In addition, the brand has officially confirmed the release of the new Vesta.
For motorists, 2021 will be remembered for a total shortage and an unprecedented rise in prices. But this did not prevent AvtoVAZ from increasing sales by 2.1% – to 350,714 vehicles. The Russian brand is still the No. 1 brand in our country – the company’s share is 22%. The main achievement of the company in the past year – four models entered the top 10 sales: Vesta became the leader, Granta is on the second line, the Lada Niva family is on the sixth place, and Largus closes the top ten.
If we talk about numbers, the Russians bought 113 698 copies of Lada Vesta. 48% of sales come from SW versions (station wagons). It is also worth noting that sales of bi-fuel sedans Vesta CNG increased by 65% and amounted to 2,919 units.
Granta sold 111,430 pieces. The sales of this model were significantly affected by the microchip crisis. Last year, the car received an upgraded 1.6-liter engine, Enjoy Pro multimedia and Lada Connect system.
The third result was shown by Largus – 10,573 vans (-10%) and 39,541 passenger station wagons (+ 7%) were sold. At the same time, the Lada Niva family was sold in the amount of 51,242 units. Of this amount – 25,827 copies of Niva Legend and 25,415 Niva Travel cars.
AvtoVAZ exports its products to 17 countries. Last year, 35.5 thousand cars were sold abroad (+ 9.4%). The main markets are Belarus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Local assembly began in Uzbekistan, a new importer appeared in Armenia.
According to Dmitry Baranov, leading expert of Finam Management, today AvtoVAZ is a classic global automaker that confidently competes with other companies, and it will not be easy to displace it from the first place in sales in Russia. “You shouldn’t be surprised, because this is a completely different company than a few decades ago. It has foreign shareholders and top managers, a new strategy has been developed and is being implemented, a large-scale modernization has been carried out, the quality of products has increased, non-core assets have been sold. operates in many markets, its products are well known in the world, “the expert notes.

At the same time, according to him, AvtoVAZ should not abandon its plans to release new models, since the competition in the market continues unabated. “If at the same time the company provides the highest quality products, makes the design interesting, ensures excellent characteristics of its cars, then it will retain and even increase the number of its customers, and the increased cost will not frighten them, especially since the shortage of new cars remains,” adds Baranov …
However, AvtoVAZ is not going to stop updating the model range. In 2022, the main premiere will be the release of the new Lada Vesta, said the vice president of the brand for sales and marketing Olivier Morne. This will happen in the middle of the year, a little later, the sports versions of the model will appear on the market.
Denis Migal, general director of the Fresh Auto network of car dealerships, is confident that the new Vesta will also be popular. Serial production of the new Lada Vesta at the Lada Izhevsk plant should start in spring. Outside, Vesta will differ from the current version in the modified design of the front and rear parts of the body, other headlights (in the top version they are LED) and lights, bumpers and a radiator grill. Inside, a completely new front panel with a vertical media system screen is expected. In technical terms, no changes are expected.
At the end of 2021, the Russian auto industry showed an increase in key indicators. According to the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, measures to stimulate localization and support the demand for cars produced in Russia helped to maintain the positive dynamics. “According to preliminary data, in 2021 the production of cars in the Russian Federation exceeded 1.5 million units, which is 10% more than in 2020. In particular, the growth in production in the passenger car segment was about 8%,” the minister said. New car sales last year rose more than 6% to 1.8 million units.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that 20 billion rubles were allocated in the budget to support demand – preferential car loans, leasing (including electric vehicles) and subsidies for the purchase of natural gas vehicles. The government included electric vehicles in concessional leasing and car loan programs in early January. The discount on the purchase of a passenger electric car will be up to 25%, but not more than 625 thousand rubles. The rules for subsidizing preferential car loans have been expanded: a discount of up to 25% will also apply to electric cars. The authorities have also expanded the list of categories of citizens who can apply for preferential car loans to include educators.
