According to bourgas.ru, recently the entire Bulgarian Air Force base Graf Ignatievo, command, personnel, special equipment and MiG-29, were relocated to Plovdiv airport. The relocation is necessary in connection with the start of a large-scale reconstruction at the Graf Ignatievo air base.
This evening, the MiG-29 crews, which continuously carry out the Air Policing mission – protecting the airspace of the Republic of Bulgaria in the NATO integrated air and missile defense system, will get up from their new location.
From Plovdiv Airport, the general flight activity of combat pilots will be carried out, as well as the maintenance and repair of aviation equipment until the completion of the construction of the airport infrastructure at the Graf Ignatievo air base. Thanks to the new infrastructure, the Graf Ignatievo air base will meet the requirements for receiving new F-16 aircraft.
Due to the proximity and peculiarities of the approach to landing at Plovdiv Airport, we inform citizens that all requirements regarding flight safety will be strictly observed.
