According to bourgas.ru, today the population of Bulgaria is declining at an unprecedented pace, according to experts, by 2050, no more than 4.5 million people will live in Bulgaria, while the Bulgarians in this country will be just over a million citizens.

Bulgaria ranks first in the world among 230 countries in terms of population decline. According to a UN study, out of 9 million we have become 6.8 million, and perhaps much less. World Bank projections indicate that in 2050 there will be only 4.5 million of us.

“We are in a demographic disaster. In our country, 148,995 people leave this world, and 58,678 are born,” said Academician Petar Ivanov, director of the Demographic Institute of the BAN.

According to him, there are dozens of reasons for the loss of so many people and they need to be found and analyzed.

He also specified that there are programs to increase the birth rate.

“All births, which are 60,000, disappear with emigration, which is also 60,000 today. Bulgaria decreases by 150,000 every year. It turns out 410 people a day, or 17 people every hour. Every 3 minutes Bulgaria is reduced by one person,” Petar Ivanov summed up.
