Bundestag deputy Roth explained the US fight against Nord Stream 2

Opposition to the launch of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is mainly explained by the economic interests of other countries, in particular the United States, said the head of the foreign policy committee of the Bundestag Michael Roth.

“Today, much of the criticism of the pipeline is motivated by self-interest. After all, the US wants to sell its expensive liquefied natural gas in Europe, ”- said Roth in an interview with Handelsblatt.

According to him, the gas pipeline issue is controversial even among Germany’s partners.

Roth also called on Russia to guarantee the continuation of gas transit through Ukraine after 2024.

Formerly First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said at a press conference following the meeting of the NATO-Russia Councilthat the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline poses a threat to energy and national security for many countries of the Euro-Atlantic community.
