Krasnodar international airport closed due to heavy snow

On Wednesday evening, the international airport of Krasnodar named after Catherine II, due to the heavy rainfall that hit the capital of the region, completely stopped receiving and sending passenger aircraft.

– Due to the increased heavy snowfall in the airport area, snow adhesion, deterioration of visibility, and the need to clear the runway, the Krasnodar airport is closed until 01:00 on January 13, – said the press service of the air harbor.

At the moment, the departure of 13 flights has already been delayed, and five airliners have left for the alternate airfields of the Kuban and Don. So, the Ural Airlines liner flying to the southern capital from Moscow (Domodedovo) was sent to Sochi, the plane of the Utair airline from Sochi landed in Anapa, and three more flights landed in Rostov-on-Don.

As already reported, this afternoon in 24 municipalities of the Krasnodar Territory was introduced high alert mode due to bad weather and a sharp cold snap. Four emergency warnings are currently in force in the Kuban. In the region, it is predicted that wet snow will adhere to wires and trees, as well as ice. In Anapa, Novorossiysk, Gelendzhik – a strong wind. In Apsheronsky, Belorechensky, Seversky and Tuapsinsky districts, Anapa, Gelendzhik, Goryachy Klyuch and Sochi – snow and rain floods.

In Krasnodar, heavy snowfall has been going on for several hours. Huge traffic jams have formed on the main streets of the metropolis. Due to bad weather, on behalf of the mayor Andrei Alekseenko, a high alert regime was introduced. It will operate from 12 to 14 January.

According to the press service of the city administration, on the night of January 12-13, there will be work 42 combined road vehicles. Ten of them were provided by the Ministry of Transport and Roads of the Krasnodar Territory.
