Krasnov: Citizens trust prosecutors – over 80 million appeals have been considered in 20 years – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

During the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Russian prosecutor’s office, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov drew attention primarily to the human rights function of the oversight agency.

According to him, it is very important that citizens trust the prosecutors. Over the past 20 years, more than 80 million citizens have turned to the prosecutor’s office. People turned in the hope of help and very many such help was provided. As the Prosecutor General noted, during this time 35 million protests were filed, lawsuits were filed and other response measures were taken in the interests of citizens.

This concerned, in particular, the protection of the labor and social rights of citizens, as well as the spheres of health care, housing and communal services, ecology and many other areas. Igor Krasnov emphasized that the main task of prosecutors is to ensure that the results of supervision have a positive effect on people’s lives. In addition, according to him, to overcome the most dangerous threats of a cross-border nature – extremism, terrorism, corruption – Russian prosecutors have established extensive international cooperation.

According to Krasnov, the 300th anniversary of the Russian prosecutor’s office, together with its employees, is celebrated by numerous foreign colleagues, prosecutors general, leaders from the Council of Europe and the International Association of Prosecutors. In total, representatives of more than 45 countries and international organizations arrived in Moscow on January 12 for the Day of the Prosecutor’s Office of Russia.

The Prosecutor General also thanked the entire staff of the supervisory agency for the good teamwork, endurance and perseverance in ensuring the rule of law, protecting human and civil rights and freedoms. In addition, he warmly congratulated the veterans on the holiday. According to him, it is a great honor for prosecutors that Hero of the Soviet Union, head of the RSFSR prosecutor’s office Boris Vasilyevich Kravtsov, who devoted almost 40 years to serving the law, celebrates this holiday with them. “Together with him in the ranks of 107 war veterans. Dear veterans, thank you for everything that you have done for the triumph of legality, for your help and advice,” Igor Krasnov thanked the veterans.
