On August 4, the strangest film of this summer, Earwig, is released on the screens. Director Lucil Hadzihalilovich is the wife of the famous Gaspard Noe and the author of the script for his Enter the Void. Daughter of emigrants from Bosnia, born in Lyon, lived in Morocco until the age of 17, and this film was shot in the UK. This mixture of cultures seemed to be reflected in The Earwig, the action of which takes place in an incomprehensible place: either in Kafkaesque reality, or in the space of “strange fantasy” that is fashionable today. A movie was made based on the book of the British Brian Catling, which, unfortunately, has not been translated into Russian.

In the story, a man named Albert must look after a strange girl named Mia. Her teeth are made of ice. Usually, Mia is always at home, but suddenly Albert’s employer orders the girl to be taken out of town. What will happen next in this gloomy film with mournful music – it would be difficult to say even to Gaspard Noe.

For the first time, “Earwig” was successfully shown at the last film festival in Toronto; she visited San Sebastian, the BFI London Festival and others.

The main roles in the film were played by well-known actors – Albert is played by Paul Hilton, whom we saw in the series “The Crown” and in the recent “Lady Macbeth”. His screen partner is young star Alex Lawther, who is best known for his roles in The End of the F***ing World, Black Mirror, and films such as Goodbye Christopher Robin and The Last Duel. Also in the film is actress Romola Garay, a two-time Golden Globe nominee who played in Suffragette and In My Soul I Dance.
