Finnish President told Putin about the country’s intention to join NATO

It is specified that the Finnish leader told his Russian counterpart that the demands in 2021, aimed at preventing countries from joining the alliance, fundamentally changed the country’s security environment.

Among the reasons why the Finnish government wants to join NATO, Niinistö also named the Russian special operation in Ukraine, reports RIA News.

On Thursday, May 12, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin declared the importance of immediate accession to NATO. They noted that the Finnish state should immediately apply to join the alliance in order to ensure its security.
