Regulator: Germany can survive without Russian gas for less than three months of winter

With one hundred percent filling of gas storage facilities, Germany is able to survive without Russian gas for 2.5 months of an average winter. This was stated by the head of the Federal Network Agency Klaus Müller, reports TASS.

He calculated that in less than three months the vaults would be empty. To prevent such a development of events, he called on the authorities to find additional suppliers and save gas. At the same time, the head of the German regulator assessed the current situation with gas supplies as “tense, but still stable.”

Russian gas deliveries to Germany and a number of other European countries decreased in mid-June due to equipment failure at the compressor station “Gazprom” “Port”. Several gas turbine engines were sent for warranty repairs to Canada, which refused to return them due to sanctions.

23 June German Economy Minister Robert Habeck declared about the shortage of gas in the country against the backdrop of a reduction in supplies from Russia. He said that Germany was facing a gas crisis and announced the start of the second of three phases of an emergency government plan to counter the energy crisis. According to him, residents and businesses should reduce gas consumption – “now, in the summer, and then in the winter.”

June 21 German company EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG signed a long-term agreement to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from US exporter Venture Global LNG. According to a joint statement, the US company will supply EnBW with 1.5 million tons of LNG per year starting in 2026. The contract was concluded for a period of 20 years.
