The imprisoned ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has decided to finally leave Georgian politics. He will also leave his party – the largest in Georgia among the opposition “United National Movement”, Saakashvili’s lawyer Valery Gelbakhiani told the press.

Gelbakhiani indicated that Saakashvili was no longer interested in politics. According to the lawyer, leaving the political area for the former president of Georgia is “a matter of life and death,” reports RIA Novosti on Saturday, July 30th.

“Apparently, he has been thinking about this for a long time, but no one gave him the opportunity to announce it publicly, because they did not want scandalous dissonance. And now he declares that he has no claims against anyone. His political resource has exhausted its agenda, days and tasks have also changed. His main task is to monitor his health, escape from possible danger, death, “the lawyer quotes the publication.

Saakashvili secretly crossed the Georgian border on September 29, 2021, he spent eight years in exile. On October 1, Saakashvili was arrested, as he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison in his homeland in two criminal cases. In jail he went on hunger strike several times.
