More than 6.5 million people became infected with coronavirus in a week

GENEVA. TASS – KAZINFORM – More than 6.5 million people have been infected with coronavirus over the past week, more than 14 thousand have died. The number of infections decreased by 9% compared with the previous seven days, and deaths by 3%, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday. It is reported by MIA “Kazinform” with reference to TASS.

As noted in its weekly bulletin, “the number of cases from July 25 to July 31 decreased by 9% compared with the previous week.” At the same time, 3% fewer deaths were registered. In seven days, WHO received 6,565,679 infections and 14,179 deaths.

An increase in the number of infected was registered in the Western Pacific region (plus 20%) and Africa (plus 5%). However, the incidence has declined markedly in Europe (minus 35%) and the Eastern Mediterranean (minus 12%). A significant increase in mortality was recorded in the Western Pacific region (plus 44%), the Eastern Mediterranean (plus 26%) and Southeast Asia (plus 20%). At the same time, it decreased in Europe (minus 26%).

Japan reported the highest number of infections in a week with 1,379,099, followed by the United States (923,366), the Republic of Korea (564,437), Germany (459,724) and Italy (394,583). The United States has the most deaths in seven days with 2,626, followed by Brazil (1,827), Italy (1,205), Japan (655) and Australia (637), according to the fact sheet.

As of August 3, WHO has received 557,018,226 reported cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic and 6,401,046 deaths
