During the night and morning of one day in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, four cars burned down at once. Petersburg fire is being investigated as arson and a suspect has already been detained – a man with a bag and wearing a mask showed up on camera.
At 3:16 on June 23, the police of the Moskovsky district of St. Petersburg received a message that a car was on fire in the courtyard of house 15 on Aviatsionnaya Street. Upon arrival, the police found two partially burned cars: a 2019 Skoda Octavia owned by a 54-year-old local resident, and a 2010 Volkswagen Touareg standing nearby, owned by a 47-year-old Petersburger. Fontanka became aware of this on June 24. Already in the morning, the owner of the Skoda turned to the police with a statement about arson. He estimated the damage at 1,498,900 rubles.
The police looked at the footage from the surveillance camera on the front of the house. A suspect was spotted on them: a tall, thin man of 25-30 years old was dressed in a light tracksuit with a hood, a black sleeveless jacket and black sneakers with white soles, a medical mask hid his face, and he carried a light-colored plastic bag in his hands. The orientation was sent to colleagues, and at eight in the evening at 20 Kievskaya Street, a 40-year-old resident of the Vsevolozhsk district was detained “in hot pursuit”. He wrote a confession, confessing that at about three in the morning he set fire to the Octavia on Aviation Street.
On the fact of the incident, a criminal case was opened under Art. 167 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (deliberate damage or destruction of another’s property by arson), and the detainee was placed in an isolation ward. Previously, the man has repeatedly been prosecuted, mainly for theft and fraud.
In the Vsevolozhsk region, a car was also on fire at about two o’clock at night. The incident happened near house 143 in Novosaratovka. Hyundai Solaris 2018 burned out completely. The car belongs to a 31-year-old individual entrepreneur from St. Petersburg. According to him, the car was leased under a contract, but he has not yet been able to provide data. The issue of initiating a criminal case is being decided, the amount of damage is being established.
Another entrepreneur was left without equipment in the Luga district of the Leningrad region. At 10:05 a.m., a 42-year-old local resident turned to the police and said that at 9 a.m., 1 km from the village of Zamostye, on a land plot belonging to him, under unspecified circumstances, his tractor MT-380 without license plates with a mower attached to the back caught fire. The interior of the car burned out, the rear wheels burned out and the mower was completely destroyed. He bought a tractor a year ago for 120 thousand rubles, but did not register it. The entrepreneur estimated the damage at 310 thousand rubles.
