Russia decided to return 49.3 million dollars for the cancellation of international sports tournaments

The Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will not begin negotiations with world sports organizations to pay compensation to the Russian side for the cancellation of tournaments in the country. About it TASS said the Deputy Minister of Sports of the country Andrey Fedorov.

According to him, the ROC and the Ministry of Sports want to recover more than $49.3 million in pre-trial proceedings. “As of today, 186 international sporting events that were scheduled in 2022 and 2023 have been rescheduled,” Fedorov said. He also added that the 36 canceled tournaments were major ones, including the world championships.

Earlier Thursday, June 23, became knownthat the International Swimming Federation (FINA) agreed to hold in Kazan World Short Course Championships in 2026. Initially, the tournament was supposed to be held in the capital Tatarstan at the end of this year.

At the end of February, many international sports organizations stopped allowing Russians to compete on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Russia was also deprived of the right to host major international competitions. In some sports, such as tennis, cycling, motorsport and chess, Russians continue to play in a neutral status.
