“Siberian Explorer” got up for the winter

In October, navigation of the current season for the scientific vessel of the Russian Geographical Society and the Krasnoyarsk Territory “Siberian Researcher” was completed. It has been wintered in one of the river ports of Krasnoyarsk. During the winter conservation period, which will last until May, preparations will be made for the 2023 expeditions.

“During this time, we will inspect the vessel and carry out the necessary maintenance. We will prepare for the next navigation, during which expeditions to the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory are already planned. In technical terms, painstaking refinement, adjustment of units, systems and re-equipment of the vessel with the necessary equipment is to be done, — noted the chairman of the Krasnoyarsk regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society Igor Spiridenko.

Also, according to him, next year it is necessary to provide fuel supplies along the planned route of the expedition. She will go to the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory – to the Arctic zone of Taimyr.

— During the winter, we will form a plan for scientific research and decide on customers, — added Spiridenko.

An 18-meter steel river-sea vessel was built in Saratov for five years. It is equipped with high-quality technical equipment and modern navigation and communication systems. “Siberian Researcher” is able to carry out scientific work directly on the water and conduct expeditionary and training activities on land. The use of the vessel will significantly reduce the costs of expeditions for helicopter operations.

During the navigation period of 2022, the newest vessel made test trip along the Yenisei – to the north of the region and back to Krasnoyarsk. More than 1000 km covered. Successful sea trials in real conditions were carried out by the Krasnoyarsk regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, scientists from Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov and Research Institute “Center for Environmental Industrial Policy”. Subsequently, they will assess the state of the fragile ecosystems of the Arctic.

It is assumed that from 2023, the Siberian Researcher under the flag of the Russian Geographical Society and the Krasnoyarsk Territory will help implement projects for a comprehensive survey of the Arctic territory of the region, necessary to systematize scientific knowledge, study the waters of the Yenisei and its tributaries, as well as the coastline of the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea. The expedition plans include the identification and preservation of cultural and ethnographic heritage sites, as well as environmental monitoring.

In addition, the “Siberian Explorer” will be used to develop new routes and develop water tourism in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, as well as to popularize the activities of the Russian Geographical Society and implement the educational project “Krasnoyarsk Territory through the eyes of a geographer.”
