SOS Women’s Line detected at least six cases of femicide risk and has eight detainees: C5 – El Sol de México

A week and a half after the Government of Mexico City launched the Line *765 Women SOS, to report cases of violence against women, has received 174 calls, in which they detected at least six cases of femicide risk and, to date, eight people have been arrested and taken to the Public Ministry.

At a press conference, Juan Manuel García Ortegón, head of the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5), commented that, within the 174 calls, there were 41 emergency cases, because at that time the woman who made the call to the number was in a situation of risk and required some type of attention; Y 133 calls in which they requested guidance.

He added that in four of the cases that were sent to the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX), in three there was a detainee that led to the opening of two investigation folders by family violence in Iztapalapa and one for family violence in Gustavo A. Madero.

In the remaining case, the victim desisted from initiating an investigation and was given medical attention. at the Women’s Justice Center.

In this regard, the head of the local government, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that detecting six cases of femicide violence, rather than setting off alarms, represents that the emergency line does work and that public servants have acted appropriately to protect women.

“It seems to us that this comprehensive care that we are giving, with the Gender Alert that was carried out in Mexico City, both in the 11 measures that were proposed, the women’s lawyers and this new number *765, is helping to prevent which is something very important.” commented.

The president considered that, in many of the cases, the intervention for the calls to the SOS Line does not only cover the attention to women, but also the whole family.

“The family is intervened, in such a way that, if it is necessary to change behaviors, behaviors are changed and if not, then there is the criminal complaint anyway,” he asserted.
