The former editor-in-chief of the radio station “Echo of Moscow” Alexei Venediktov was legally entered into the register of foreign agents. This decision was made on Thursday, June 23, by the Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow.
How reports RIA Novosti, one of the reasons for adding Venediktov to the register of foreign agents was the receipt of almost 43 million rubles. as a salary from a foreign-funded company.
The representative of the plaintiff did not agree with the position of the Ministry of Justice on this issue. The Respondent recalled that under Russian law, in order to be included in the register of foreign agents, one must receive a salary from a Russian legal entity with foreign funding and disseminate information to foreign media. which was observed in the case of Venediktov. The court agreed with the position of the Ministry of Justice and refused to satisfy the claim.
Alexei Venediktov entered in the register of media outlets performing the functions of a foreign agent, in the end of April. The board of directors of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, which stopped broadcasting, had previously terminated the contract with him. Venediktov was the chief editor of the radio station from 1998 to 2022.
