Czech Foreign Minister Lipavsky supported the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO

Prague fully supports the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATOsaid Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, writes Novinky.cz.

As the diplomat specified, the Czech Republic considers these countries friends. “We warmly welcome Finland and Sweden and support their interest in joining NATO,” he added. The minister believes that the issue of accepting the two states into the alliance takes time. First, a political agreement must be reached, he explained.

“As soon as we have it, then the question of ratification in the national parliaments will remain,” the minister stressed.

Former Foreign Minister of Finland Pekka Haavisto declaredthat the country might apply for NATO membership on 18 May. Finland and Sweden promised to resolve the issue of joining NATO on May 15th.
