The possible visit to Taiwan by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi is a violation of Chinese and international law, as well as an obvious provocation. This opinion was expressed by the head of the commission of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty of the Russian Federation Andrey Klimov.

“The island of Taiwan, on which today the third person in the hierarchy of American power is going to land without asking, is recognized by Russia and the UN as a territory belonging to the PRC,” he said. Klimov’s words lead RIA News.

The head of the Federation Council commission also stated that a possible visit by Pelosi to Taiwan could lead to an armed conflict if China or the United States resort to military use of force.

Formerly the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China reaffirmed China’s determination to retaliate in case of Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. “We are paying close attention to the Pelosi route, and if the US acts without regard to the opinions of others, China will certainly take decisive and tough measures,” a ministry spokeswoman said.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken urged China to act responsibly. He believes that it is not necessary to create tension because of the visit of Pelosi.
