The first Russian Geographical Society park will appear in the Kuban

The first park of the Russian Geographical Society in Russia will appear in the village of Afipsky, Seversky District, Krasnodar Territory. Here you can not only relax in the fresh air, but also learn about the historical, natural and cultural heritage of our country, as well as about the activities of the oldest public organization in Russia. The symbolic laying of the “cornerstone” of the future green zone took place on October 22. The solemn ceremony was preceded by careful preparation of all necessary documents and topographic survey of the area.

“A park of the Russian Geographical Society will be created at this place,” the inscription on the stone reads. The plate with the inscription was made by the Smolensk Department of Emergency Restoration Works of Gazprom Transgaz Krasnodar LLC.

The project of creating a new leisure and educational space was born last year during the laying of the alleys of the Russian Geographical Society here in Afipsky. As the author of the idea, the chairman of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Ivan Chaika, noted, the design of objects in the urban space is one of the priority areas for Kuban geographers.

Work is already underway in the future park. There is a children’s playground here. In the future, a sculpture of the famous Russian traveler and explorer Semyon Dezhnev, a symbolic “wind rose” and other small architectural forms reflecting the activities of the Russian Geographical Society will be installed in the recreational zone.

Work on the creation of a theme park of the Russian Geographical Society in the Seversky District will continue in the near future. I am sure that it will be in demand among the residents of this young microdistrict and will become an excellent platform for various educational, youth and social projects of the Russian Geographical Society– said Ivan Chaika.

The initiative to create a park of the Russian Geographical Society was supported by the head of the Afipsky settlement, Yuri Kovalenko, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the general director of the Afipsky refinery, Alexei Sidorov.

Representatives of the public and the press, volunteers and members of local branches of the Russian Geographical Society from 15 municipalities of Kuban took part in the official ceremony of laying the first stone of the future park. Those present at the event were greeted by Ivan Chaika, Alexei Sidorov, Deputy Head of the District Administration Marina Chernova, Chairman of the Seversky branch of the Russian Geographical Society Sergey Dubovik, Acting Head of the Administration of the village Yulia Vakulenko.

– You all know that this is not the first joint project of our enterprise and the Russian Geographical Society. For many years, together with Ivan Gennadievich, we have been implementing social, environmental, and cultural projects in the Krasnodar Territory. For our part, we are ready to continue to support the initiatives of the Russian Geographical Society, such as this one. I am sure that this park will be a great place for families living in the village, — emphasized Alexey Sidorov.
