According to her, NATO will always remain a defensive alliance. Burbock said that the German Cabinet had prepared everything necessary for the rapid ratification of the FRG agreements on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.

“As NATO partners, we make it clear that our doors are open to those who need security support,” Burbock said.

May 13 Finnish Foreign Minister Pekki Haavisto announced that the country will apply to NATO in the middle of next week. Sweden is planning similar actions.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin told about the consequences of Finland’s accession to NATO. According to him, the refusal of this country from the policy of military neutrality would be erroneous, since there are no threats to the country’s security. He noted that a change in Finland’s foreign policy could have a negative impact on relations with Russia.
