The President of Finland said he was ready to discuss the questions voiced by Erdogan about joining NATO
The head of state said he was ready to discuss the issues of joining the alliance, voiced by the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. That emphasizedwhat Ankara does not consider Finland’s accession to NATO to be a positive development.
“We are following the process. But we are not in positive (…) opinions on this matter,” the Turkish leader specified. According to him, a “mistake in connection with Greece” had already been made earlier. And Turkey does not want to make a second such mistake.
Earlier on Sunday, May 15, became knownthat Finland has officially decided to join NATO and apply for membership. According to Prime Minister Sanna Mariin, this decision is historic. “As a member of NATO, we will also be responsible for the security of the North Atlantic Alliance as a whole,” she added.
The decision to join the alliance will be discussed in the Finnish Parliament on Monday, May 16th.
