State Duma Deputy Sultan Khamzaev questioned the benefits of professional football for Russia

Deputy State Duma Sultan Khamzaev speculated about the benefits of professional football for Russia. This is reported “Match TV”.

“Why do we need football today? Let’s decide for ourselves. Why do we need this big state machine? What is the purpose? What do we want to achieve? Khamzaev doubted.

The deputy added that 97 percent of the money in Russian football is state-owned. “This is not a private story,” he stressed.

Russian football teams and clubs have been suspended from international tournaments under the auspices of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Thus, the national team will not be able to take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the League of Nations, and Russian clubs will not be represented in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
