Kyiv is seeking opportunities to speak directly with Beijing about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an exclusive interview with the South China Morning Post.

“I’d like to talk directly. I had one conversation with President Xi Jinping a year ago. But we haven’t had any talks with China after February 24, although I think it would be useful,” Zelensky said. He also added that Kyiv has formally requested talks with Beijing after this date. South China Morning Post reports on Thursday, the fourth of July.

Vladimir Zelensky also said in an interview that China, as a powerful state with a strong economy, could influence Russia’s actions in economic and political terms.

The West has previously accused the Chinese authorities of assisting Russia after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine. American intelligence said that Beijing is secretly helping Moscow in various ways, and “sometimes it’s more obvious, and sometimes less obvious.”

Wherein Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China is not a direct participant in the crisis in Ukrainehowever, is not going to sit back and passively observe what is happening from the side.
