According to bourgas.ru, at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, a program of priority investment spending by the Ministry of Defense was adopted, they assured that there would be no savings on national security in Bulgaria. This is reported by the official portal of the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria.

The program includes 13 projects with a total value of BGN 6.6 billion.

These projects cover only a subset of the required 188 capabilities identified during the defense review.

“Given the economic and financial situation of the country, we have identified only 13 possibilities. I think saving money is bad for national security. The Bulgarian army was underestimated for more than 30 years. Technologically, we are far behind our allies. The current geopolitical situation requires us to think in the direction of modernizing the Bulgarian army,” said Interim Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov.

At today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, a project of investment costs for the purchase of another 8 F-16 BLOCK 70 aircraft was adopted, and the amount for three contracts is $1,296,412,185, Minister Stoyanov said.

He stressed that the acquisition of new equipment is extremely important for the Bulgarian Air Force.

“The project also includes air-to-surface and air-to-air strike capabilities. those. we will have a full squadron of 16 aircraft. It is expected that the aircraft will arrive in 2027,” the minister said.

“Every conflict – frozen, smoldering or hot – is a national security risk, but there is no direct threat to Bulgaria. The country is in the NATO collective defense system,” Minister Stoyanov said in response to a request to comment on the partial mobilization announced in Russia.
