Head of NGO in Georgia Gigauri announced the registration of a record number of companies by Russians

From March to June 2022, a record number of companies owned by Russian citizens were registered in Georgia, Eka Gigauri, head of a large non-governmental organization (NGO) Transparency International Georgia, said following a study, writes RIA News.

According to her, this is several times higher than the annual figure of last year. “About 6,400 Russian companies were registered, which is seven times the annual figure for 2021,” she noted. According to the Georgian side, 93 percent of those registered are individual entrepreneurs. This suggests that Russian citizens have moved to Georgia to do business.

In total, 13,500 Russian companies are registered in the country today. The number of tourists from Russia has also grown. “Over the last period, about 240,000 people arrived, which is much higher than in previous years,” Gigauri specified.

In June Georgia canceled all coronavirus entry restrictions for foreign tourists.
