Holding osteodensitometric research in the region became possible thanks to a new device – a bone densitometer, which was first purchased for the Nenets district hospital as part of the implementation of the regional project “Modernization of primary health care” of the national project “Health”.

It should be noted that earlier residents of the district were sent to specialized clinics of other subjects for X-ray densitometry.

– Bone conditions such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, affect bone health by reducing their strength. They can lead to multiple fractures and, as a result, disability of the patient. This problem is very relevant, according to statistics in Russia, every third woman and every fifth man after 50 years of age suffers from osteoporosis. Most often, this pathology is observed in women. Per ten months of work on new equipment osteoporosis and osteopenia were detected in 320 women and only 11 men,” said Marina Timofeeva, head of the X-ray department of the Nenets District Hospital.

There can be many reasons for the development of such conditions, all of them are associated with metabolic disorders. calcium in the body is the main building material for bone and determines its strength.

The gold standard for diagnosing osteoporosis is X-ray densitometry, which allows quantitative measurement of calcium loss in the most problematic areas, for example, in the lumbar vertebrae, femoral neck, distal forearm, and makes a diagnosis even at an early stage.

Osteoporosis is treated mainly by rheumatologists and endocrinologists.

In the Nenets Autonomous Okrug osteodensitometric the examination is carried out in the direction of the endocrinologists of the Nenets district hospital and the Central district polyclinic of the Zapolyarny district.
