Kosachev compared the visits of Nuland to the Maidan and Pelosi to Taiwan in terms of the scale of the consequences

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was comparable in devastating impact to the 2014 trip to Maidan by then-U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. This opinion was expressed on Wednesday by Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.

“In fact, Victoria Nuland on the Maidan in 2014 and Nancy Pelosi on Taiwan in 2022 are twin sisters both in terms of the degree of irresponsibility and the scale of the devastating consequences,” the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.

“Ukraine has been on fire ever since,” he added.

On Tuesday evening, despite protests from Beijing, Pelosi arrived in Taiwan. This is the first visit by an American politician of this rank in the last 25 years. China has repeatedly warned the American side that if the trip takes place, it will not remain without consequences and tough measures will be taken.

Taiwan has been governed by its own administration since 1949, when the remnants of the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) fled to the island after being defeated in the Chinese civil war. Since then, Taipei has retained the flag and some other attributes of the former Republic of China, which existed on the mainland before the communists came to power. According to the official position of Beijing, supported by most countries, including Russia, this is one of the provinces of the PRC.
