The merger of the two main universities in the region – the Murmansk Arctic State University (MASU) and the Murmansk State Technical University (MSTU) – was approved by the MTGU Supervisory Board chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation – Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.

– It is necessary to pay attention to regional educational institutions, so we ensure interest in them and support for large companies wishing to jointly implement projects and work. Therefore, we will continue to help,” Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov emphasized.

Acting Rector of MSTU Maria Knyazeva noted that the legal process of reorganization of universities will be completed in the spring of 2023.

– After the approval of the Supervisory Board, the package of documents will be sent to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The work of the commission on the risks of the ministry will begin, then we will receive an order on reorganization and a roadmap with deadlines. Tentatively, towards the end of April 2023, the legal merger of the two universities should take place. Already from 2023, we hope that applicants will enter the united Murmansk Arctic University. The transformation involves two tracks – research and technology. Technological implies the direct participation of our partners in educational programs, up to curation. Interaction will expand and become more meaningful. Educational processes will be tailored to the needs of the employer, – said Maria Knyazeva and stressed that all training programs will be preserved, teachers will remain in their places.
